My Neighborhood Name: Whittier


My Neighborhood Description: My neighborhood is a place where everything is close by like I can walk to the stores to the restaurants and is easy to get around. My neighborhood is a place where you can learn more new stuff.

1. Public Services (parks, libraries, schools)
Grade: C

Comments: I give my neighborhood this grade because there is not a lot of resources like libraries or nothing like that and it’s not a lot of schools only Merc alternative school and Whittier.


2. Transportation (access to bike routes, bus and train, main streets, and highways)
Grade: A
Comments: There are a lot of bike routes and bus routes in my neighborhood I can get from my house to downtown and it’s easy to get there on the bus because there are bus routes and the closest highway is I-35W. It’s easy to get bus transportation.

3. Retail Services (groceries, pharmacies, coffee shops, banks, restaurants and more)
Grade: A

Comments: in my neighborhood there is a lot of groceries like Walgreens and K-Mart ,starbucks, the Spy House, Wells Fargo , Rainbow Restaurants , Mariachi, Pancho Villa and I give my neighborhood a 10 because there is everything I need in my neighborhood restaurants ,stores, bank.

4. Safety (violent and nonviolent crime, shots fired, predatory offenders, and pedestrian safety)
Grade: B

Comments: my neighborhood is a safe place I think because there is not a lot of violence in my neighborhood it’s not a lot of crime or anything like that.

5. Nuisances (airport noise, pollution, and odors)
Grade: A
Comments: there are no airplanes noises in my neighborhood I don’t have problems with airplane noises it’s quit.

6. Demographics (diversity, homeownership, education, income, and poverty)
Grade: F
Comments: there is not a lot of diversity in my neighborhood because 63.2 % are white people in my neighborhood and 32.3% is non white.

7. Areas for Improvement: I would improve my neighborhood by communicating more with each other and having all types of cool stuff.

8. What I like about my neighborhood: the calmness

9. What I’d most like to see for my neighborhood: I want peace!!!!!!!!

  1. I love the video and the poetry. This is a very powerful way to reach out to government officials, neighborhood residents, and others. It is great to see such thoughtful analysis of where we live, work, and play.

  2. Actually, there are some great cultural and recreational places in the neighborhood. The Minneapolis Institute for the Arts (MIA) is a huge, FREE art museum off of 3rd Ave. Attached to the MIA is a nationally recognized art college, MCAD. On the other side of the MIA, there is a huge open park that hosts many public events including pick up volleyball and art fairs.
